Algae vase

Algae Vases are made by Dutch Designer Mandy den Elzen. The base of the material is Laminaria (algae). The leaves are approximately 10 to 20 wide and 30 cm long.

The algae is boiled and processed when still moist. As soon as the material is moulded in the desired shape, it is lacquered with an acrylic resin. This way the material is less vulnerable and has gained strength and resilience. The material can be used for indoor wallpaneling and the manufacturing of various forms of artwork.

Mandy den Elzen has made vases with a natural look. Because the dried algae is slightly translucent, it looks strikingly beautiful when illuminated.
